"Jr Iron Chef VT is a statewide culinary competition organized by Vermont FEED challenging teams of middle and high school students to engage in improving their own health and the health of their community by creating nutritious, local dishes to inspire school meal programs." VT FEED
On Saturday March 16th, Clementine Phillips, Abby Kreis, Elias Gillen and Coach Brian Schwartz took home the Crowd Pleaser Award for their dish called Rich and Creamy Ratatouille, a lofty stack of roasted vegetables with a lemon scented, roasted red pepper sauce and lightly spiced bechamel, garnished with a garlic crostini, fresh basil and grated Parmesan. The delightful combination of colors, flavors and textures wowed the judges!
The GMTCC trio has been practicing their recipe for 3 months, under the coaching of Pre Tech Teacher Brian Schwartz and with the generosity of Chef Doug Becker for the use of the culinary kitchen.
This is the 12th year of Vt Jr Iron Chef and the first year for GMTCC, a Lamoille Union Middle School Team, The Culinary Lancers, took home a prize in 2014.
Clementine, Abby and Elias are already thinking up new recipes for next year's competition!
